Area 31 open house
On Thursday, January 23, students and their families will have the opportunity to attend the Area 31 open house and become familiar with the programs, facility and faculty.
PHS guidance counselor Jaleen Royer explained, "The Area 31 Open House is an event where prospective students and their families can visit the career center to explore its programs, see the learning spaces, and meet the faculty." She continued, "Students should attend to gather information about the courses, environment, college credits, and career opportunities available."
The Area 31 Career Center gives Plainfield students the unique opportunity to engage in unconventional and hands on learning experiences tailored to potential future career paths. "The pros of enrollment include gaining practical skills and networking opportunities, earning college credits and certifications, and job placement opportunities," said Royer.
In additional to gaining learned experience and knowledge, enrollment at Area 31 can increase a student's qualifications on paper. "the majority of the programs at the career center meet a graduation pathway and can help students earn a Technical Honors Diploma," Royer said. However, participating in a course at Area 31 does take significant time from a student's schedule and limit how many classes they can take at PHS. "The career center will take up either 3 or 4 periods of your school day," according to Royer.
Overall, the Area 31 career center provides a great opportunity for PHS students who already have a good idea of a specific career path they are interested in pursuing. Royer stated, "Students should attend to gather information about the courses, environment, college credits, and career opportunities available."
