New Dean of Students

10/03/2023

Throughout the past semester, many students, new or old, may have seen a new face around the halls. That "new face" happens to be former teacher and former assistant principal Elizabeth Giesting, who now holds the title of "Dean of Students."

"My responsibilities include ninth and tenth-grade discipline," said Geisting. "I'm also in charge of the Cyber Force for all of PHS and in charge of clubs."

This job, which is new to PHS, requires someone of great responsibility and resourcefulness-- something that Giesting doesn't lack. Before coming to PHS in the fall of 2023, Giesting was a middle school math teacher. Then, in a turn of events, she became an Elementary School Assistant Principal.

As Giesting finished up her first semester at her new job, she found herself learning new skills as time went on.

"I have learned to work with parents better," said Giesting. "It's hard to make that phone call and say, 'Hey, we made some poor choices today,' but it's also cool to see students grow and learn from experiences and be accountable for their decisions."

Giesting, now warmed up to her new role, finds the simple things, such as talking to students and her colleagues, the most enjoyable part about her job.

"We like to have fun and we like to joke around," said Giesting, "and it's fun to come to work every day."
