Blood Drive
The Blood Drive has come around again this November. Students will have a window of time where they will have the chance to donate blood and possibly help those in need.
Since the blood drive only comes around once a year, it is essential that any students who are thinking of donating blood seize the opportunity to do so. School nurse Glenda Coffelt explained the ways in which donating blood does a lot of good. "Students should donate blood because there is a very big need around the country for donations," she said. "It is needed for surgeries, for trauma victims, for people with medical conditions and otherwise. Donating blood helps lots of people in many different ways."
Coffelt mentioned that she had donated blood herself before. "It has been a little while since I have, mainly due to time constraints. It is very important and should be done," she said. The more people that donate blood, the more people that can be helped.
Any students who feel anxious about donating blood should know not to be afraid. Even minimal interest in donating blood could mean getting it to someone in need. The amount of positive support and impact for donating blood is worth any nervousness. "It's always scary to try new things," said Coffelt. "The hardest part is putting the needle in to draw the blood. Really just try not to look at it, especially if you have a queasy stomach, make sure to take a deep breath and make sure to eat and hydrate before doing the blood draw."
