Broadcasting Project

Being new to the school this year, broadcasting teacher Haley Jordan has a lot of things to establish and test in her classroom. She recently started a project in her classes that will help her students learn about broadcasting with some hands-on experience.

"Students will collaborate to produce a minute and a half package for the Publications class that inspires other students to take the course," she said. "Each student will be assigned a role like news director, producer or reporter, and plan out their job within that role. Once the interviews and B-roll shots are complete, students will participate in a guided lesson with me, and I will walk them through the video editing process on Adobe Premiere."

The deadline for the project was Friday, November 10. "Adobe Premiere, two Canon cameras and one microphone and cord were needed to complete it," said Jordan.

She explained that the project is meant to encourage her students to get involved with other classes by going out and interacting with them. "This not only helps the other classes, but it puts my class on the map and encourages my students to go out in the field like a real broadcast journalist would," she said.

Jordan had reasonable expectations of her class, and she stated they had been doing well thus far. "I expect solid interview questions and preparation as well as improvement in shooting B-roll and framing up interviews," she said. "I want to see every student take part in the process."
