Deca District Competition
Attention! The District DECA Competition is taking place today, January 15th.
Club sponsor, Meagan Craft, explained what the competition entails. "DECA competition is a competition for marketing and business students," said Craft. "These competitions are made up of 2 components- a test and a role play."
Craft noted what the test and role-play components mean. "The testing portion, tests students on their knowledge in general areas for business and or marketing," said Craft. "Students are given a case study for the role play portion of their competition. Their case study will ask students to solve a real-life problem/scenario that could happen in/to a business. Students are given 10 minutes(for individual events) 20 minutes (for team events) to come up with their solution and then they are given another 10 minutes to present that solution to a judge."
There are many abilities competitors need to have, such as a background knowledge of business/marketing, creativity, problem-solving skills, and presentation skills.
"My hope for students is that they use competition as a learning experience and an opportunity to grow their problem-solving abilities," said Craft. "I also hope students take the time to network with other students who are interested in pursuing business or marketing as a college major and potentially a career."
