Watch out! There's three minutes on the clock, and you're surrounded by other skilled players, fighting to the last one alive.
Sometimes, this is what a round in Super Smash Bros (and many similar games) looks like. However, Super Smash Bros is a multi-faceted game with endless settings to choose from and rules to set for each match. Its environment is strategy focused; it can either be played by ear or planned ahead, and sophomore Cameron Weatherhead knows this well.
"What really goes through my head is trying not to throw," he said. "When it comes to Super Smash Bros, there's a lot of stuff that goes through your head. There's a constant of reaction times." Weatherhead plays other timing games, like Geometry Dash, in his spare time for that extra advantage when he plays.
"A lot of my timing skill comes from that game because it's purely based on timing. Whenever it comes to Super Smash Bros, my timing with combos and other stuff like that is really good compared to the other players."
Weatherhead enjoys Super Smash Bros in his free time. At this point, he's set on the path to play professionally. "Super Smash Bros is a game that can pay very well if you play very well, and I would like to get into the competitive scene of Super Smash Bros outside of school," he said. "That way, I can earn some money, as I'm not too financially stable right now, and I feel like playing professionally could be a good boost for my family."
