Homecoming Recap

With a carnival to raise money for Riley Hospital, a parade with the Homecoming Court and a Plainfied Quakers win, Homecoming week had quite an exciting end. Winning against Greenwood high school with a 46-20, the Quakers once again showed their talent and amazing teamwork. At the home game, the winners of the Homecoming King and Queen were announced: seniors Drew Guthrie and Abigail Gadia.

Although he was not prepared for everyone's attention being on him, Guthrie had many of his friends supporting him and cheering him on. "When I was announced as the king, Caitlyn, my partner I ran with, told me to "dab her up" (just a funny handshake) if I won," said Guthrie, " so the first thing I did when they called my name was shake her hand."

Being nominated Homecoming King was not what Guthrie was expecting. "Winning was a complete surprise," said Guthrie. "Usually a lot of attention freaks me out, and I assumed you had to be pretty extroverted to win something like that. I even gave my homecoming ticket to my friend because I was scheduled to work and wasn't prepared to be the Hoco King at the dance."

Guthrie was not the only one to not see the win coming. "I didn't really think I would win because I had already won twice in the past," said Gadia. "I figured people would be bored with me. It's really nice to know that people were willing to vote for me again, though." For the third time, people have shown their love and support for Gadia even when she didn't think she would win.

With both a dance practice and a dance performance on the day of the Homecoming game, Gadia was in a rush trying to get from one outfit to another. "I had to get dressed for dance team, then change into my dress for the parade, then change back into my dance team clothes for the pre-game performance, and then back into my dress for half-time," said Gadia. "I carried a huge bag with all my clothes, shoes, makeup, and hair tools. I was scrambling at times, but I made it through."
