IUPUI Hack-a-Thon
On Saturday, April 20, the Luddy School of Informatives, Computing and Engineering at IUPUI will host a Hack-a-Thon for high school students interested in creating and working with AI.
From 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., there will be multiple events going, with a prize pool ranging from a $50 Amazon gift card to a $1000 scholarship. "Students should consider attending for opportunities to learn new skills, network with professionals, enhance teamwork and problem-solving abilities," Computer Science teacher Shane Abrell said, "and build their portfolios, have fun, win prizes, explore interests, and gain valuable recognition in a competitive environment."
One is welcome to join, and no prior experience is needed. "Students should attend the Hack-a-Thon even without prior AI experience. It's a valuable opportunity to learn, collaborate, explore new challenges, and network with others in a supportive environment," said Abrell.
Students must register in teams of 2-5 students. Each team must have an adult sponsor/chaperone. That adult may be a teacher, club sponsor, or parent. The adult must be present on the day of the competition, according to the IU website.

Abrell explained that everyone should participate in the Hack-A-Thon. "Events like Hack-a-Thons are important for high school students because they provide hands-on learning, skill development, exploration of interests, networking opportunities, confidence-building, and preparation for the future," said Abrell.
