Jazz Band

Just over three weeks ago, the PHS Jazz Band officially began rehearsing their music. With a large band combining many different and unique instruments, Jazz Band provides a unique auditory experience for those who may watch, and a stress-free environment where musicians can have fun playing their instruments.

"The primary goal of jazz band is to play through some good music, play a different style that, as a general rule, we don't play in band or orchestra," said Jazz Band director Frederick Graf.

With this primary goal in mind, the Jazz Band began rehearsing some classics, such as "Fly Me to the Moon" and "Sing, Sing, Sing," letting old-world music clash with a new sound. However, Jazz Band is also rehearsing their fair share of newer songs, one such song being "Tank!" from the anime "Cowboy Bebop."

"Really, jazz band is more of an enjoyment kind of thing," said Graf. "My overarching goal is that we sound good, we play good and the kids are happy."

Jazz Band meets every Wednesday from roughly 3:15 to 5:00 after school, and is open to anyone with an interest in playing for the jazz band. Any instrument can be played for the band.
