No Tricks, Just Treats!
Halloween's #1 fan
Counting down the days until Halloween, Sophomore Elaine Hermert is captivated fully by the holiday. Hermert enjoys all parts of Halloween. From the candy to the costumes, she's fond of it all.
As a cosplayer, Hermert's favorite aspect of Halloween is dressing up. "I dress up a lot, even outside of Halloween. I like dressing up specifically for Halloween because it's more normalized," she said. "I also like taking on a new identity and becoming someone else for a night. It makes me very happy." Hermert explains her plans for this year's costume. "One of my costumes was a witch and it's supposed to be more of a sea witch because it's very blue. My other costume was a creepy doll and my third was supposed to be a clown. I wanted them all to be unique, but I also wanted to source pieces only from my wardrobe," she said.
Hermert recounted a fond story from her childhood whilst trick-or-treating. "During Covid, people just left their candy buckets on their porches with no specific amount of candy listed to take," she said. "As a result, my siblings and I got so much candy. Our baskets were cutting off our circulation. They were so heavy, my mom had to pull them in the wagon she brought for my little brother," Hermert said.
She explained why Halloween is important to honor. "Halloween is great for spending quality time with family and embracing traditions such as frolicking and collecting candy," Hermert said.
