Prep for College and Careers Day
PHS staff and students will have a break from their typical schooling on Wednesday, October 23, with Preparing for College and Careers Day (PCC day.)
All sophomores and juniors, along with some freshmen, will have the opportunity to take the PSAT in school. According to PHS College and Career Specialist Makenzie Ewoldt, "Taking the PSAT really allows you to have a better understanding of what the SAT is going to look like."
Freshmen who are not taking the PSAT and seniors are required to submit a plan relevant to their future for PCC day. "Students who are not taking the PSAT have the opportunity to either do a college vist or to do a job shadow somewhere in the community," said Ewoldt. Regarding specific opportunities to job shadow, she said, "It's usually most helpful if there's someone in your family or a friend who can help you get into a job shadow experience."
Whether it is through practicing for the SAT, visiting a college campus, or learning about a potential future career through shadowing, PCC day will serve as a great way for students to prepare for the future. "Even though, for college admissions the SAT is still optional for most schools, if you prepare for it and do well, it could help you with the admissions process and earning scholarships," Ewoldt explained.
"It's really not a day to stay home and play video games or watch TV. We do want to make it a meaningful experience for you so you have a better understanding of what the next few years look like for you in your future."
