Prom
With the carpet rolling out, Prom 2024 started off with a bang. On May 4, students danced the night away at the Embassy Suites Hotel, with the theme of the night as "Red Carpet."
Senior Yandel Calleja was among those who took to the dance floor. With this as Calleja's last Prom, he explained that one of his favorite parts was having a good time with his friend and dancing with those that he cared about. "Especially in my senior year, seeing a lot of groups of people that I probably won't see in a while," he added.
Calleja explained how last year's Prom was a little bit more 'hyped' and that this year felt a little bit more calm. As well as the energy being different, the decorations were also different, since last year's Prom theme was Cinqo de Mayo.
Senior Lily Saylor agreed that her favorite part of the night was getting to spend one last dance with her friends before graduation. "We got together to take pictures beforehand at a park, which was really fun and the pictures turned out perfect," said Saylor. "It was really great to dress up and spend the weekend with my friends."

Saylor also attended Post-Prom, which was Star Wars themed. She explained that as well as the decorations, the free food and raffles made Post-Prom worth attending. "There were Chick-fil-a nuggets, pizza and Frigid Frog," she said.
While Saylor unfortunately did not win the $500 scholarship raffle, she did luck out with a randomized gift card drawing, where she won a free meal at Hotbox. "I was the only one out of my friend group who didn't win anything last year, so it was a good feeling to win something this year," she said, "even if it wasn't Kings Island tickets or a scholarship."
All in all, Saylor explained that she would recommend going to Prom, especially for seniors. "I feel like a lot of people make fun of going to school dances and they just think it's corny," said Saylor. "While there is definitely an element of corniness to it, I think that's also what can make it fun. Life becomes a lot more freeing when you don't have to take yourself so seriously."
