SAT Day

03/04/2024

This upcoming Wednesday, March 6, the SAT will be administered to all juniors and some senior students who choose to retake the exam, starting directly at 8:05 a.m. For many, this will be a stressful day, given that the SAT could potentially determine the college they could go to in the future. However, it can be a relief to most students that many colleges are test-optional.

"The SAT can give colleges a standardized measure of academic abilities," said College and Career Specialist Makenzie Ewoldt. "However, they also know that not all students show their true academic abilities through a test. Many colleges now are test-optional, meaning that it is up to the student if they'd like the college to take their scores into consideration for admission or scholarship purposes. For some students, an SAT score may be needed to meet a postsecondary-ready competency of a Graduation Pathway."

With this in mind, many students should continue to practice and study for the SAT in order to get a better score. Programs like Khan Academy and CollegeBoard provide excellent resources for the studious type.

"Each tester should bring their Chromebook fully charged," advised counselor John Newbold, "and get a good night's sleep the night before."
