Scholarship Opportunities
Looking for scholarships to help out with college? The PHS Guidance website can help. On the Guidance website, there is a vast list of different scholarships that are available to all students.
"You will likely be automatically considered for academic scholarships when applying to schools. However, they also have additional scholarships on their website," said College and Careers Counselor Makenzie Ewoldt.
Ewoldt offered another piece for those looking into financing college. "My biggest piece of advice will always be to file the FAFSA in your senior year," she said. "You really never know what you may qualify for." The FAFSA deadlines vary depending on the college and state, so students should stay up-to-date on all information.

A misconception that many high school students have is that there isn't a point in applying for scholarships, due to the perceived competition. However, Ewoldt explained that this is not always true. "There are some scholarships that have a very small number of students actually submit applications for them," she said.
Additionally, Ewoldt stated the importance of looking into scholarships. "To put it simply, any scholarship money you receive is less money you have to pay for your education," she said.
