Tour de Quaker

05/07/2024

Break out the bike helmets and air up the tires -- the Plainfield Police Department's third annual Tour de Quaker is on May 11, beginning at 2 p.m. The event will start at the East side of Hummel Park, at 1500 S. Center Street. As well as a one-mile, five-mile and 15-mile bike ride, there will also be a bicycle safety course prior to the trail ride. While the event is free, donations are welcome, and proceeds will go toward Cops Cycling for Survivors (CC4S), which raises awareness for fallen officers.

Officer Josh Jellison explained that in May 2023, he and Officer Endicott helped start the first Tour de Quaker event. "My favorite memory of the first annual Tour de Quaker was the group of people that showed up in support of CC4S," he said. "We hope that more will come out to enjoy the ride."

As well as supporting CC4S, the event also helps promote bicycle safety and health in the community. "We are also looking to benefit the community through health and wellness, and give the community a way to raise any questions or concerns they may have with the local police department or any areas of concerns within the town of Plainfield. This allows for a further line of communication between the community and the police department."

This year, Jellison's goal is to see the Tour de Quaker event grow, with even more attendees than before. "Our hopes and goals are that the community will get their bicycles out if they haven't already, dust them off and get them maintenanced," he said, "so that the Plainfield Police Department bicycle program can see them out and about throughout the year on the trails."
